We here at Cooper and O’Hara have found that a lot of our education over the past few years have come from extensive reading.
We have always wanted to create a place to share some of our favourite books that we have read and we felt like 2016 was the time to start. Each month we will post a new book up here with a few of our thoughts on it accompanied with some of our favourite quotes. We will try to keep it short and sweet, but hopefully we can supply you with a few hidden gems that give you as much as they gave us. We hope you enjoy!
For the first book club book we thought we would start with one of our favourite books. It is Paul Arden’s book, It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be
This book is short enough to read in one sitting, but is overflowing with wisdom.
Paul Arden was an Executive Creative Director in Britain and often thought of as a genius. He is responsible for creating some of Britain’s most successful ad campaigns including British Airways, silk cut, intercity and fuji.
If you were ever looking for the perfect self improvement book this is it. It is small enough to always carry around with you and short enough to revisit hundreds of times. The book does generally focus around the advertising world, but is really applicable to any industry. Below are some of our favourite quotes from it. Let us know your thoughts on it. Happy reading!
“Energy. It’s 75% of the job. If you don’t have it, be nice.”
“Do not seek praise. Seek criticism”
“Don’t Look for the next opportunity. The one you have in hand is the opportunity.”
“Give away everything you know, and more will come back to you.”
“The person who doesn’t make mistakes is unlikely to make anything.”
“Your vision of where or who you want to be is the greatest asset you have.”
