Welcome to 2021! In an attempt to share more of our work we are going to start using this platform for quick blurbs and BTS of some of the projects we get the joy of working on. This project was a magazine editorial for Edify Magazine in Edmonton. We were hired to photograph the winners of the Edify award, which was awarded to business leaders in the community.

After going back and forth on concept we landed on this monolith idea. Little did we know that shortly after we shot the project monoliths started popping up in deserts. We liked using the symbolism of the monolith beside these people who are a catalyst for innovation within their professions.

Mood Board:

We have started creating project mood boards with Milanote. It’s a great way to quickly gather inspiration and start narrowing down colour, mood, art direction, and style. Here is our mood board for the shoot.

The project

For this project we had to create the three “Hero” images and then multiple other images of the rest of the winners of the award. We decided on the monolith for the hero images and then simple black and white portraits for the rest of the winners. This simplified the process during Covid, as winners could come to the studio for the shoot which was spaced out and implementing covid protocol. We could also get everyone in and out quickly with only one set up. The black and white photos ended up being our favourite from the project.
